Almost immediately she joined the Rouge Valley Quilter’s Guild and has been an active member ever since, serving on both the Guild and the Quilt Show Executives in many different capacities, including Program Chair and Quilt Show Convener. Having a background in education, Irene began to teach quilting in 1988 in order to defray the cost of her quickly growing fabric stash. Little did she know that those first few classes held around her dining room table would lead to a ten year stint teaching quilting for the Continuous Learning Department of Durham College, an assortment of workshops with the Rouge Valley Quilter’s Guild, countless classes at local quilt shops, workshops at Ontario Quilting Connections’ 6 th Biennial Convention, or being a featured quilter in a Studio 2 production on TVO in March of 2005. For the past several years Irene has been an avid participant in The Quilt Project for Breast Cancer Support, donating a quilt each year as well as participating in a group that annually makes and donates a quilt. It was while designing the group’s 2004 donation quilt that Irene developed what would become her first commercial quilt pattern. With the encouragement of friends and co-workers, she began to self publish a line of quilt patterns in 2004 under the name Brambleberry Cottage Quilts. An avid hand quilter who enjoys exploring the new techniques, toys and tools of quilting, Irene blends all of these into her classes, passing on a love of traditional quilts and quilting while inspiring new quilts and quilters alike. Her fabric stash has yet to be tamed but who knows where it could lead her next. What are guests have to say... Dear Jo and Mike, Thank you for a wonderful weekend.
